GLOSSARY

Insurance contracts always include very specific terms and expressions that can sometimes be difficult to understand. Generali has prepared a glossary of insurance terms so that insurance contracts hold no secrets.

Optional Exemptions

The insuring party can opt to apply exemptions in order to reduce the premiums to be paid to the insurance company.

Own Tariffs

These are tariffs which are submitted for approval to the Portuguese Institute for Insurance (ISP), after which implementation is compulsory. Generally, all tariffs have a part consisting of dispositions and another part consisting of tables of premiums or rates.

The part with dispositions contains specifications about the scope, commencement of validity, tariff categories, different types of insurance, risks, precepts relating to new insurance products, alterations, rules on the payment of premiums (and fractions thereof), temporary insurance, extensions of coverage and additional premiums or additional rates, the diverse additional charges relating to the tariff rate or premium, minimum premiums, aggravations and discounts, etc.

In addition to this part with dispositions there are also tables specifying tariff rates or premiums.
