GROUP HEALTH INSURANCE
Even though the National Health System (SNS) and other health systems and subsystems cover the vast majority of Portuguese salaried employees and ensure a reasonable level of medical assistance, in recent years there has been a substantial increase in demand for health protection plans offered by insurance companies.
In our opinion, this situation could be the result of the growing difficulties involved in dealing with the existing National Health System (especially in terms of efficiency) which has to provide an extremely vast service and has thus consequently tended to resort to private and voluntary solutions from their own social partners (by means of incentives, tax benefits, benefits while negotiating collective contracts etc.).
